The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) and the Voter Awareness Council (VAC) are pleased to announce that they are co-hosting a non-partisan, unbiased candidate forum on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, 7:00 pm at the City Hall building at 101 Old Plantersville Road in Montgomery.

Incumbent Mayor Kirk Jones with challengers Dan Katen and Sara Countryman, incumbent Council Place 2 member John Champagne Jr. with challenger John L. Fox, and incumbent Council Place 4 member Rebecca Huss with challenger Jennifer Anthony have been invited. Early voting is April 23rd through May 1^st and Election Day is May 5th. Chamber and VAC officials will be co-hosting and introducing the session but will have no role in the actual forum.

Andy Dubois, Executive Editor of The Conroe Courier will act as forum moderator. Andy will use questions based on the media’s overall awareness of Montgomery area issues, questions submitted to him from anyone prior to the session via email at adubois@hcnonline.com, and written questions submitted by the audience during the early stages of the forum.

Candidates will make opening and closing remarks, answer questions in a round robin l-r, r-l question format, and have the opportunity to comment on questions addressed to other candidates. Reasonable time constraints will apply throughout the session.

“We are very pleased to be working with the Voter Awareness Council on this opportunity for our residents to gain first-hand information and input from candidates for their mayoral and city council positions” says Chamber Director Shannan Reid. “We also very much appreciate The Courier working with us to ensure that this will be an unbiased forum for our residents to aid them in reaching their own voting decisions” adds Ms. Reid.

VAC is a local non-profit corporation established by a number of Montgomery County residents designed to help encourage and equip citizens to vote. Totally non-partisan and unbiased, VAC’s mission is to inform and educate citizens on our local elections, improve the overall voting experience and to increase voter turnout. Incumbent Mayor Jim Kuykendall with challenger Dan Broyles and incumbent council member Alex Jones with challenger Martha Stedifor have been invited. Early voting is April 23rd through May 1^st and Election Day is May 5th. City and VAC officials will be co-hosting and introducing the session but will have no role in the actual forum.

Wendy Cawthon, Editor of The Woodlands Edition of the Community Impact Newspaper will act as forum moderator. Wendy will use questions based on the media’s overall awareness of Oak Ridge North issues, questions submitted to her from anyone prior to the session via email at wcawthon@communityimpact.com, and written questions submitted by the audience during the early stages of the forum.

Incumbent Mayor Ritch Wheeler and challenger former Councilman Gary Henson will be present. Early voting is April 23rd through May 1^st and Election Day is May 5th. City and VAC officials will be co-hosting and introducing the session but will have no role in the actual forum.
